Out of Hours Primary Care Changes in Lochaline
Dear Lochaline community,
We wanted to ensure some formal communication around the changes to Out of
Hours provision in Morvern.
As discussed at the public meeting, we have been planning for the point at which Dr
Taylor no longer felt able to fulfil the on call commitment. Dr Taylor gave us notice
that she wished to stop covering out of hours so we are now set to move fully to that
new model from 1st August 2017.
To recap, this means that there will be a single service for Out of Hours across
Morvern and Ardnamurchan (‘West Lochaber’). We have a stable team now based
out of the Pines surgery in Acharacle, consisting of highly skilled Advanced Nurse
Practitioners with some GP locum support. Some members of the community will
have received care from this team over the past months as we have tested out bits of
the new model in a limited and sensible way.
For clarity, access for care that can’t wait until your GP practice opens (urgent care) is
still via NHS24 on 111. You will be triaged by NHS24 and then passed to the West
Lochaber team who will do what is necessary to ensure you are treated. This may be
an advice call, a home visit or an appointment. Based on the feedback at the public
meeting, appointments will be in Strontian in the first preference, but you may be
seen in Lochaline if clinically necessary. You will not be expected to travel to
In an emergency, you should always dial 999.
We are confident that it is safe to proceed, but will continue to monitor and
evaluate. We will monitor all calls from go live to ensure they are managed
appropriately, and then take forward this formal evaluation process once your new
community council is elected.
