Live Life Morvern
What is a Community Action Plan?
On completion in Spring 2022, the Action Plan will lay out our community’s own long-term vision for the next decade – and the steps we need to take to get there. As the community’s own agenda for its future, the Community Action Plan (CAP) can help support bids for funding or support and help guide decisions made by local organisations.
It’s now 10 years since the Community Growth Plan was developed in 2011 (it’s still available for view on Morvern.org), with many of its goals now achieved. Now we need a new plan for the next 10 years, and we need your help to create it.
Who’s preparing the Plan?
Morvern Community Council, Morvern Community Trust and Morvern Community Development Company have sourced funds and formed a joint steering group to develop the plan.
We have selected an independent team to work with the local community to prepare the Community Action Plan, called PAS (Planning Aid Scotland). The team is beginning work in October 2021 and aim to finish by spring of the following year.
PAS has done similar work in various communities across Scotland. You can get a flavour on their website www.pas.org.uk, under Local Place Plans.
How can I have my say?
Between now and the end of the year, the team will be engaging with community groups, local residents, schools, businesses, landowners and anyone who is interested. If you’d like to have a chat with us, please get in touch – our contact details are below. Please start thinking about your ideas and keep in touch. We’ll use social media and other means to share questions and updates over the coming months.
Why should I get involved?
Because you are invested: If you’ve read this far, it’s likely that you want the best for Morvern’s future. This is a chance to shape that future for ourselves and our kids.
Because it will be intriguing: We love getting people to talk about what they want their community to look like. Sounds fun? This is for you.
Because it will be your plan: This won’t be somebody else’s plan imposed on you: it will emerge from the ground up and reflect your priorities.
What will be in the Plan?
Anything that improves Morvern as a place to live, work and visit. We need you to tell us what. So, over the next few months, we’ll be asking local folk for their ideas about how to make Morvern an even better place. And we’ll be working with you to develop a Plan that can make those aspirations happen. The content of the final Plan will depend on what we as local people want. It might include:
- Goals outlining what the community wants Morvern to be like in 10 years’ time.
- Support to continue existing activities, start new things, or develop local facilities.
- Thinking through what we might need to do for local businesses to thrive, or what projects to develop to become increasingly carbon-neutral.
Will my idea be in the Plan?
That’s the aim! Although there might be as many different ideas as there are people in Morvern, and it’s likely that ideas with the most shared energy behind them will come to the fore.
We’d like to get as much input from as many folk as we can. We’ll encourage discussion and debate and speak to as many people and groups as possible. And we’ll organise public events later in the process where everyone can prioritise together what’s most important for Morvern, forming the basis of the Plan.
Being from outside the community, PAS are neutral but also bring fresh perspective. They bring relevant experience from elsewhere, helping us make new connections locally, and connecting us to new relationships with the Council and other outside organisations. The Morvern CAP Steering Group are Douglas Taylor and Annie Tordoff (MCC); Amy Stammers and Sarah Jones (MCDC) and David Campbell (MCT). Our local worker for the project is Bonnie Mealand.
