New Chef for The Hub Cafe!
We’re delighted to welcome Robert to our team in The Hub Café! Robert grew up just down the sound from here in Oban before heading off to Lowestoft to train as a chef. He’s worked in a number of interesting jobs since then including several bars and restaurants in Leicester, running his own business for a few years and then moving to Islay to work as the Front of House Manager at the beautiful Islay House until Covid hit. Since then, he’s been working in Inverness but he missed the community vibe of Islay and that was what jumped out to him about The Hub Café job. He’s really excited to be part of a community again in a beautiful part of the world. When Robert isn’t working, he’s passionate about travelling and loves exploring out of the way places, especially enjoying having the opportunity to try different and interesting food from around the world. He’s travelled to Kazakstan and Serbia but his favourite place so far has been Grenada in the Caribbean, particularly the Seven Sisters Rainforest where he jumped down a huge waterfall.
Robert is passionate about food, particularly about using local ingredients wherever possible. He’s excited to be building relationships with local fisherman for our new menu and will also be serving Ardtornish burgers as part of our evening meal menu. The Hub Café is open Wednesday—Saturday 10am-3pm and is also open on Thursday 5-9pm for evening meals and bar. Please follow our social media for any changes to this and for more information about our food and team!
The Hub Café team is delighted to have welcomed so many locals, local groups and visitors to the café over 2025 with nearly 6000 transactions taking place from our opening in April to the end of the year. MCTC, who run the café, now employ 7 local staff on the rota supported by 2 volunteers. We’re also proud that we’re now supporting over 20 local crafters and micro-businesses by selling their crafts. We’re looking forward to a busy summer season ahead and especially looking forward to welcoming you all in to try our new menus! Local community is at the heart of everything we do in The Hub Café and we have run several events over the past few months including a wonderful evening called Singing Into Spring by the Morvern Singing Group. Over the winter, we also hosted a number of workshops which were supported by proceeds from The Attic. Weaving Through Winter was facilitated by local basket weaver Mhairi Tordoff of Earthbound Basketry and Storytelling to Connect was facilitated by local filmmaker Sam Firth. Thank you to everyone involved in such a fantastic and popular series of workshops and to The Attic volunteers for making it all possible.
