Welcome to Suzanne and Scott!
MCDC is delighted to have welcomed two new members of staff in the last month. Suzanne Pender has been appointed to the new role of Operations Manager whilst Scott Brennan has taken over as our new part time Harbour Master covering the winter period. A very warm welcome to both.
Angus Robertson, MCDC Chair, said “I’m so pleased that Suzanne and Scott have joined the staff at MCDC. MCDC has grown considerably in the last few years and is taking on increasingly ambitious projects which is exciting. However, the workload had become unsustainable at our previous staffing levels and volunteer Directors were having to give a huge amount of their time which may not always be possible in the future. The MCDC Board therefore made the decision that it was vital to appoint an Operations Manager to work between the Boards and the staff to ensure that all MCDC, MCTC and MorVolts operations are running smoothly, effectively and safely. We were all incredibly impressed by Suzanne during her interview process and are delighted that she has agreed to take on this key role.
“I am also very pleased to welcome Scott to the role of part time Harbour Master. We were sorry to wave farewell to Heath and Heather but very pleased to welcome such an exciting and dynamic new employee in Scott. He is currently embarking on the essential programme of winter maintenance at the harbour and we look forward to supporting him in that over the next few months before the warmer weather returns and we can get everything opened up again.”
Suzanne Pender - Operations Manager
Hello - my name is Suzanne Pender and I have just joined MCDC as the Operations Manager. My role is to oversee all our Operations, to ensure that we are safe and effective, as well as to manage and support the staff team. Previously I worked in Infrastructure in nuclear and I am used to managing complex projects, commercial contracts and large teams. However, I have also been a Parish Clerk and Local Councillor in a rural area, in the Lake District National Park so I do understand the challenges facing rural communities, particularly in terms of housing, access to transport and services and the cost of living. Being new to Lochaline, I have a lot to learn. I am keen to meet as many individuals and groups and to understand local priorities and perspectives. Please do feel free to knock on my door in the Hub, or give me a ring or email operations@morvern.org
Scott Brennan - part time winter Harbour Master
Hello! My name is Scott Brennan, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the new part-time Harbour Master down at Lochaline pontoons. As a recent graduate from the University of Dundee, where I studied Product Design, I’m thrilled to bring my creativity and attention to detail to this new role. I live with my partner and her parents at Finchwood in Fuinary, and I’m passionate about contributing to our local community. My primary aim as Harbour Master is to enhance the appearance of the harbour building and its surrounding area in time for the upcoming season. I hope to create an inviting and beautiful space that both locals and tourists will enjoy, making the harbour a welcoming place to experience the best of this stunning wee village.
